Jeremy Renner says he died — and came back — after being crushed by his own 14,000-pound snowplow in a terrifying New Year’s Day accident in 2023. And in a chilling confession, he describes that moment of death as “beautiful.”

The 54-year-old star of Avengers broke 38 bones when he was run over while trying to save his nephew, Alex Fries, from being hit by the machine.

“As I lay on the ice, my heart rate slowed, and right there, unknown to my daughter, my sisters, my friends, my father, my mother, I just got tired,” Jeremy recalls. “After about 30 minutes on the ice, of breathing manually for so long — an effort akin to doing 10 or 20 push-ups per minute for half an hour — that’s when I died.”

Renner had been lying motionless in the snow for 45 agonizing minutes before first responders arrived. His heart rate had “bottomed out at 18,” he says. He was “basically dead.”

But Jeremy insists he felt no fear. Instead, he experienced something mystical.

“I know I died. When I died, what I felt was energy, a constantly connected, beautiful and fantastic energy,” he says. He found peace and love.

“In death there was no time, no time at all,” he says. “Yet it was also all time and forever.”

Eventually, a spiritual force yanked him back into his body … and into the fight of his life. He returned to consciousness facing a long and grueling recovery. His injuries included a crushed pelvis, ribs, right knee and ankle, left tibia and ankle, eye socket, jaw, and mandible — along with numerous internal injuries and extreme blood loss.

The Hurt Locker star has undergone multiple surgeries and intense physical therapy, slowly rebuilding his body — and his life.
